Micro rings have a silicone lining in the ring itself to ensure extra grip when applying.

The hair used is called ‘I-tip’ or ‘stick tip’

Micro rings are applied using a looping tool to pull an even strand of hair through, the bead is also threaded through then pushed up towards the hair line. One strand of hair exstension is inserted into the micro ring, pliers are then used to clamp it down, ensuring there is room for slight movement and not being too close to the root of your own hair as this will avoid matting.

The hair can be re-used during each maintenance – so please keep the odd strands that may become lose or fall out.

Maintenance would need to be every 6-8 weeks, this is where the hair will be repositioned towards the hair line. The ring will be re-clamped to push the hair up, in which the ring will slide up to the correct position before clamping back down the ring with the hair inside.

If maintenance is missed and you have had your hair in for 12 weeks plus, the whole hair would need to be taken out a re-applied due to matting that may have occured. In which new rings would need to be used as well.

The ring used would be matched to your root hair colour to ensure blending and decrease the chances of seeing the rings.

Micro rings are not advised for greasy or fine hair as the ring will slip through easier.

Nano rings are similar to micro rings, however the ring itself is 90% smaller therefore, they are much more discreet.

The application method for Nano rings is the same as Micro rings, however due to the small ring once taken out the ring will need to be replaced each time. The hair extension used is also different it has a small metal tip which is threaded through the nano ring and then clamped down using pliers.

Generally with nano rings a gap is not left between each row like micro rings has and a 1 cm wide square shape is obtained (using the nano ring method) from the clients natural hair ensuring an even application throughout.

Nano rings have a ‘re-fit’ rather than maintenance which would need to be done every 8-10 weeks, during this time row by row each strand of hair extensions will be taken out and put straight back in using a new fresh bead.

Nano rings are an excellent choice if you are looking for a fuller look in hair, they are advised for all hair types, especially for those with fine hair.

Due to the size of the ring it is possible to get more into each individuals client hair, this method is certainty more popular due to being so discreet.

How can I look after my hair?

Once hair has been applied it is advised not to wash your hair for 48 hours to let it settle.

Ladies it is vital you follow the after care guidelines below in order to avoid matting or loss of strands and also to keep both your natural hair and the hair extensions in the best condition. If you look after your hair correctly it will last between 6-12 months or between 12-18 months – depending on the type of hair you choose.

  • Brush hair before washing – starting at mid length to ends – do not brush it hard, hold the hair out and brush gently.
  • ALWAYS use a tangle teaser
  • MUST use silicone and sulphate free shampoo and conditioner
  • Apply argon oil daily from mid-length to ends and also when wet.
  • ALWAYS dry hair from root down, NEVER leave hair to dry naturally
  • Use hair straighteners/curlers/hair dryer to style ONCE dried
  • Tilt head back whilst washing, avoid circular motions when washing – this can cause matting
  • ONLY apply conditioner mid length to ends – leave on for 5-10 minutes each time
  • Blow dry hair on a cool setting, airflow going downwards – this will give your hair a shine
  • Remove excess water and wrap hair in a towel when washed
  • ONLY wash hair 2-3 times a week max
  • Use dry shampoo for the roots
  • ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sleep in a loose plait ladies!!
  • Wrap a towel around your head when using sunbeds
  • DO NOT wear your hair up too tightly for the first couple weeks – this will cause discomfort and possible breakage
  • Avoid chlorine and sea water
  • Expect to lose 5-20 strands of hair extension within 3 months
  • Tie your hair in a bun when on holiday
  • Ensure you keep up with your maintenance
  • Sun can leave the hair dry so ensure you apply conditioner and argan oil daily when on holiday – also use leave in treatments and hair masks work wonders!
